The Gilded Age was the time of rapid economic growth for the United States. The period where little corporations turned into a millionaire company. The time of one of the most dynamic, contentious, and volatile periods in American history happened. National wealth increased dramatically but their was a problem for the poor and the farmers of the U.S. People may say that the Gilded Age was the era of corruption, harsh labor and brutal industrial competition, but others think that the Gilded Age is the time that the U.S. exploded industrially and that was the moment that the U.S became one of the superpowers of the world. For example, all the iron and steel that the U.S made was us ed to improve the railroads for better and safer transportation, and the production of iron and steel was just easier to make and a big number of iron and steel was made in a smaller amount of time. This is one of many examples about the products that the U.S used from their own territory. In the section titled Causes of Industrial Expansion, Lapsansky-Werner discusses about the geography of the U.S stating,† first, the nation’s physical geography provided an abundance of natural resources- including lumber, coal, and oil- that manufacturers relied on to power their factories and lubricate their machines.† (Lapsansky-Werner 67). The resources that the captains of industry had gotten to use for factories or to make more products to sell was all from U.S soil. The U.S never had to invade a country for a natural resource like today, where the U.S has had multiple wars with different countries for oil.
